Hoff Hit: Keep Tomatoes Yummy

Tomatoes lose their flavor when stored in the frig.

So adhere to the golden rule of produce storage: store tomatoes in the same environment that you found them at in the store.

Of course once you cut into a tomato, off to the frig it goes!

  1. My other tip is not to store large, heavy tomatoes "upside down" i.e. on their "shoulders". That is the weakest part of the fruit, and the weight of the tomato will cause crushing. If you can, store the big ones right-side-up. If you have several, try putting each in a little "nest" of a paper towel and snug them next to each other so they don't roll away, I have a little sturdy cardboard and wood nectarine box for this.
