My other tip is not to store large, heavy tomatoes "upside down" i.e. on their "shoulders". That is the weakest part of the fruit, and the weight of the tomato will cause crushing. If you can, store the big ones right-side-up. If you have several, try putting each in a little "nest" of a paper towel and snug them next to each other so they don't roll away, I have a little sturdy cardboard and wood nectarine box for this.
