Not to my surprise it was a little skimpy and dirty (washing required).
Due to the heavy and frequent rains, most Ohio farmers were late to plant. And it being so early in the season, I wasn't expecting much anyway.
However, this is what I did receive:
- One dozen eggs
- One small head of cabbage
- One pint of strawberries
- One bushel of spinach
- One bunch of shallots
- One bunch of asparagus
- A handful of rhubarb
- 7 baby red potatoes
- 6 radishes
- Bunch of snap peas
Now, lets do the math:
I paid $450.00 for 20 weeks of local, fresh produce and a weekly, one dozen free-range eggs. That breaks down to $22.50 a week. Taking a wild guesstimate, I'd say I got my monies worth this week. And I know that as the season progresses, my bounty will increase. So I am a happy customer.
The big question is what am I going to do with all this stuff...
- Eggs (no brainer): omelet, egg McHoffin, scrambled eggs, fried eggs...
- Cabbage: sauteed/steamed in No-Chicken Broth
- Strawberries: already gone!
- Spinach: green smoothies
- Asparagus: oven roasted, garnished with the shallots & cashews
- Rhubarb (no freakin' clue!): Das Baldwin has offered to whip up some jam and pie :)
- Red Potatoes: oven roasted, garnished with the shallots
- Radishes: sliced thin, served over a salad
- Snap peas: not a fan, so this is going to require some research
